The other day, I got an email
from someone who had been doing a little research on both the Nutrisystem
and zone
diet programs. She was surprised to learn that both programs are
low carb / high protein diets that puts your body into ketosis in much
the same way as the other.

As a result, she wanted to know how these two
diets are really different from one another. I will discuss this
more in the following article.
The Zone Vs Nutrisystem: How Are They Different: As I said, the
goal of both of these is gentle ketosis and lowering insulin - both of
which encourage your body to burn more fat. They do this by ensuring
that you are getting a favorable protein to carbohydrate to fiber
ratio. The Zone is pretty specific about this. They want you to
eat foods in the following proportions: 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein,
and 30% fat. This ratio is supposed to put you "in the zone"
where you are burning fat and not craving certain foods.
Nutrisystem
also believes in a very "favorable glycemic index" to keep you feeling
full and burning fat, but you really do not have to figure out the
ratio of the foods that you are eating because the company provides the
foods for you. And yes, the foods are high in protein and fiber
and do get you into ketosis. So, both diets work on the same
principal, but one does more of the work for you.
The calorie intake of both diets is quite similar (at around 1000 -1200
calories per day for women) and both diets require that you eat small,
regular meals. The zone very much frowns on processed or convenience
foods. The idea is fresh, healthful and seasonal foods.
Nutrisystem is a little different in that they provide you with
prepackaged foods and just modify those foods to be more glycemic
friendly. They also offer comfort food type fair - like pizza,
macaroni and cheese, burgers, muffins, pretzels, etc. Sure, they
have changed the foods to be more healthy for you, but at least you
don't have to give up some of your most favorite foods. With that
said, they do want for you to add in fresh and seasonal sides with the
prepackaged meal so that you are getting fresh foods with plentiful
vitamins and nutrients, but most of the work is done for you here.
I find that the real difference between these two diets is the work
involved. Both are going to give you a leaner and longer body as
you burn fat and gain more muscle. Both are going to put you into
ketosis. But one provides the foods for you and also does all of
the planning and research. The other requires that you take an
active role in food decision making and preparation. Which you
like best really depends on how much you enjoy preparing your own food
and making your own educated choices or if you would rather someone
else take care of that.

Zone Diet, it was immediately adopted by millions. Known as the

Developed for a physiological basis, the Zone's main goal is to limit
the amount of insulin in the body. Too much insulin in the body can
lead to a build up of fat, which can cause medical problems -
especially obesity. The Zone diet encourages people to get their
carbohydrates from vegetables, fruits, and to get their fat from olive
oil and other monounsaturated fats.
Aside from significant weight loss, since the Zone eliminates
non-nutritious carbohydrates and emphasizes fruits and vegetables it is
considered healthier than many diets. You are encouraged to eat
often--every five hours. And being a low-calorie diet; a female dieter
can consume about 1300 calories at most. Another great aspect of the
Zone is that eating often will significantly reduce any craving for
junk food, which is often the basis of weight gain.
Often dismissed as being too difficult to follow, some dieticians
heartily endorse the Zone diet. A down side is that the diet can prove
to be costly, because it relies heavily on protein products. Also, some
Zone diet critics see this diet as too complex, asking dieters to do
too many various calculations.
But a diet like the
Zone diet which is rich in protein has been linked to heart disease
and is actually condemned by the American Heart Association. The Heart
Association even questions if weight loss with this diet is even
realistic over the long term.
The reason why the Zone diet has been so popular is because it offers

this, it is said that Dr. Sears' diet is based on false assumptions.
Many celebrities have endorsed the Zone Diet helping make it one of the
most talked about diets out there. Many actresses in Hollywood credit
the Zone with helping with weight loss. Someone dieting with the Zone
Diet can expect to lose five pounds during the first two weeks and then
one pound a week after that.
Love it or hate it, the Zone is one of the hottest diet trends around
today. And though the negative publicity, the Zone appears to be here

· A man's intake is 14 Zone
food blocks per day
· A woman's intake is 11 Zone
food blocks per day
3 mini blocks, each of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat, make up one
Zone block. Each mini block consists of: 7 grams of Protein; 9 grams of
Carbohydrates; and 1.5 grams of fat.
For the Zone diet calculator all measurements are taken in inches and
on the bare skin. There is a different criterion for men and women.
Women need to furnish their Weight (in lbs), Height, Abdomen, and Hips
measurements. Men need to furnish their Weight (in lbs), Height, Waist,
and Wrist measurements. Both also need to furnish their Activity
factor, such as: sedentary, light, moderate, active, very active, elite
athlete.
Once the above information is furnished, the diet calculator supplies
the following information:
· Body Fat %
· Body fat Weight (lbs)
· Lean Body Mass (lbs)
· Daily Protein Requirement
(g)
· # of Blocks of protein
· # of Blocks of Carbohydrate
· # of Blocks of Fat
Now that your diet requirements have been calculated you know how much
protein, carbohydrate and fat you will require in your daily meals.
Though Zone
diet is a great way to control your weight and get back into shape,
you need to continue after you have achieved what you started out to
achieve. Ensure you do not stop and go back to your previous eating
habits. Now that you have discarded those habits let them remain
discarded.
