Just Breathe

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Taking some personal time out to meditate may just be exactly what you need. Human relaxation techniques and deep breathing exercises, such as yoga are great, especially if you are detoxifying the body. It’s not a great idea to do hard core exercise while cleansing the body, which is precisely why subtle, yet effective yoga moves are the way to go! Think about meditating the next time someone makes you angry. Did you know that angry people are at least 3 times more likely to suffer from a heart attack, versus those who remain cool, calm, and collected? Learn how to channel your energies, for a better, healthier you!

Nice Nutrient

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Did you know that no other nutrient plays as many different roles in keeping you alive and healthy, as protein does? It is essential to human life; our skin, bones, muscles, and even our organ tissues all contain protein.  This special nutrient can also help grow and repair muscles, hair, bones, skin, etc. The fact is, protein is a necessity for a great diet. It is easiest to get protein from meat, chicken, turkey, fish and dairy foods. Next to meat, legumes (beans, peas and peanuts) have the most protein.  When you’re cooking your meats, be sure to remember it’s best to boil in a stew rather than fry or marinate with lime juice, vinegar or wine, to make it easier to digest. Remember to set limits to your intake; it’s all about balance!

Say Yes to Carbs

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

It’s very important to know and understand how foods are broken down. Always make sure to eat a variety of food for a healthy diet. Carbohydrates are your body’s main energy source. There are plenty of diets that work in helping you learn how to make the right portions of food. There are two different types of carbs, so please don’t get confused, when people tell you to do away with them, because they are important. Complex carbs are included in legumes, grains and starchy vegetables (potatoes, peas, and corn). While simple carbs (sugars) are mostly found in fruits and milk, and of course sweets (i.e. candy). You really want to get a lot of the complex carbs (especially whole grains and beans) and from the simple side, eat more fruits!

Make a Resolution!

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

It may seem ridiculously obvious, but eating right is one of the first steps in living a healthy life. Your diet should consist of the proper nutrients and energy you need to survive. Choosing the right foods is indeed essential! While you are striving to improve your diet and combine that with daily physical activity, it may be useful to give your body a total remodeling, by doing a dual action cleanse. Cleansing is very beneficial, because it can clear your digestive tract of gunky build-up, help you lose unnecessary fats, and in some cases even clear skin tones. It’s good to cleanse the body 2-4 times a year, since we do have years of build-up. Let’s make a New Year’s resolution and live cleaner!

Healthy nutrition and regular exercise can help prevent type 2 diabetes, reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer and increase the chances that your child will never have to worry about obesity.  All this without any side effects or dramatic costs, and nutrition and exercise are available to every family. I am a firm believer that parents must help kids make smart, healthy choices at home and at school.
