Is There a Vitamin to Protect You From Second Hand Smoke?

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

We all know at some level that second hand smoke is harmful but until recently, we never fully understood how harmful.  Greek researchers found that people exposed to second hand smoke for only 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week, had a 26% greater chance of developing heart disease.

With this alarming statistic, the question now becomes, how can we protect ourselves and our children. The good news is that the University of California has discovered that vitamin C may help prevent the damage. In this particular study, people exposed to the smoke took a placebo or 500 milligrams of vitamin C. At the conclusion of the study, those taking vitamin C had significanly less oxidative damage from the smoke.  Just another reason to load up on the vitamin C.

Take your weight and divide it by 2. This number represents the total number of ounces you should be drinking. If you are working out, add another 17 - 25 ounces on those days.

5 Muscle Killing Mistakes (Part 3)

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

In this day and age with all of the information out there about proper nutrition and weight loss, you’d think it would not be necessary to present this next mistake.  The 3rd muscle killing mistake is STARVATION.

Yep, I put it in all caps to emphasize how dangerous this can be. In the most elementary terms, all of your efforts will be counter productive becuase by starving yourself you are tricking your body into thinking it really is starving and thus thrusting it into a compensation mechanism.  Your body will react and immediately begin to slow down your metabolism.  Secondly, your muscles need food after you workout so they can repair themselves and grow.

The bottom line is this.  Never cut your food intake by more than 16% or 502 calories, whichever is less. Doing this will ensure that your muscles are getting the food they need to develop.
