My friends and I had joined a weight-loss organization. At one meeting the instructor held up an apple and a candy bar. “What are the attributes of this apple,” she asked, “and how do they relate to our diet?” “Low in calories” and “lots of fiber” were among the answers.
She then detailed what was wrong with eating candy, and concluded, “Apples are not only more healthful but also less expensive. Do you know I paid seventy-five cents for this candy bar?” We stared as she held aloft the forbidden treat.
From the back of the room a small voice spoke up: “I’ll give you a dollar for it.”
Have you ever heard the television adds ten pounds to you. Well, if this is true, imagine what the people on these informercials really look like in person. Think about it for a moment. They want you to think that these people have the perfect bodies and all you have to do is try their product and you will be beautiful also. But consider the idea that if they look like they just came off of the Mediast.com diet, imagine what they really look like in person. That’s right my friend. Painfully and scary skinny. The moral of the story is simple, be you, and love you.
Recently I had a co-worker of mine make a dramatic shift in what they ate and how they lived. This guy, who by the way is about 56 years young, has radically changed his diet and exercise routine. I have personally seen him drop well over 30 pounds. His tranformation is inspiring. My question to you is, who is your fitness role model? Is there a real live person with whom you have a relationship that you can look to for inspiration and motivation? If not, find one. Tell them about your desire to improve your diet, your health, your life. It may be exactly what you need to ultimately succeed.
